This is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, modern-day replacement for the unforgettable gullwing 300SL from the 50s. It can be hard to reinvent a classic – the MINI is nice, for example, but so not a Mini – but these photos certainly look like a success to me. I can’t wait to see a video of this thing.
Coming to Frankfurt next week apparently, as is a reinvention of the venerable Citroen 2CV. I can’t see them getting that right! Click through for more photos.
1911 Census Online

The household returns and ancillary records for the censuses of Ireland of 1901 and 1911, which are in the custody of the National Archives of Ireland, represent an extremely valuable part of the Irish national heritage. Read more about their digitisation.
All thirty-two counties for 1911 are now available on this site . We have decided to make the material immediately available, in the knowledge that the vast majority of our users will be able to find what they want. Corrections and improvements will be ongoing, and we are very grateful to all users who have submitted corrections to us.
DNA Evidence Can Be Fabricated
This is going around the security networks, but it’s kind of important to everyone else too. Note my emphasis in the quote.
New York Times: Scientists in Israel have demonstrated that it is possible to fabricate DNA evidence, undermining the credibility of what has been considered the gold standard of proof in criminal cases.
The scientists fabricated blood and saliva samples containing DNA from a person other than the donor of the blood and saliva. They also showed that if they had access to a DNA profile in a database, they could construct a sample of DNA to match that profile without obtaining any tissue from that person.
“You can just engineer a crime scene,†said Dan Frumkin, lead author of the paper, which has been published online by the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics. “Any biology undergraduate could perform this.â€

National Geographic Photo of the Day: My husband and I were exploring Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park-Canada when we stopped for a timed picture of the two of us. We had our camera set up on some rocks and were getting ready to take the picture when this curious little ground squirrel appeared, became intriqued with the sound of the focusing camera and popped right into our shot! A once in a lifetime moment! We were laughing about this little guy for days!!
