Radio discussion on data retention

This morning at 9-10am on Radio 1, with TJ McIntyre of Digital Rights Ireland, Karlin Lillington of the Irish Times, and Noel Dempsey of the Useless Governement Ministers Club. Loads of details here via Bernard Tyers. Well done DRI for taking the Government to task for this awful abuse of authority.

Colour Photos From WWI

These have been doing the rounds for years now in various places (in fact this article is just lifted, it was originally published in 2005), but I had only seen a few photos here and there. If you have a short attention span, skip to the end of the post and click on the LOC link.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Be sure to pop into the Well later today if you’re around, with presents and cake and such and such. See previous post for details and a link to a map.

Taking on the MPAA

You’d need big balls and a lot of cash to take on the MPAA, and this guy reckons he has the cash. Let’s hope he has the balls.

Debunking Linux Kernel Myths

Excellent presentation, well worth a read if you’re into Linux/OSS/etc.

I’m Greg, and I’ve been given the time by the people at OLS to talk to you for a bit about kernel stuff. I’m going to discuss the a number of different lies that people always say about the kernel and try to debunk them; go over a few truths that aren’t commonly known, and discuss some myths that I hear repeated a lot.

Now when I mean a myth, I’m referring to something that was believed to have some truth to them, but when you really examine them, they are fictional. Let’s call them the “urban myths” of the Linux kernel.

Blog image?

Is there an image out there to represent blogs yet? Foot.ie has a blog now, and at this stage it has a few posts so I was thinking of throwing a banner up to draw attention to it, but I can’t think of an image to go with it.

The RSS icons are the only thing I really associate with blogs at this point, and although I’ll probably use that for now, it’s a pity blogging as a concept doesn’t have it’s own logo.

Perhaps an Irish blogger could kick things off? We seem to be at the forefront like, might as well keep it going, keep the rest of the community* on their toes!

(Obviously the image won’t be used here, since this isn’t a blog.)

* Sorry, “blogosphere” is just a dumb word. Although it would be a good concept for the aforementioned.

I don’t need no steenking comments!

Fixed now, thanks to Michele for pointing it out. Ya-boo to the rest of ye for not. Now I just need to decide whether I haven’t been getting any comments because the I borked the form when I matched the page comments to the dhtml doohickey last week, or because none of ye love me.
