California Assemblyman wants non-CFL ban

I would’ve expected a less sensationalist headline from Reuters, but I guess sensible people that actually have the balls to admit that we need to address the global warming issue are still being labelled treehuggers and faggots in collectively-stupid America*.

Personally, I think this is a great idea, and although it would be difficult to implement technically, you can at least get every single inefficient lightbulb in a public building changed, and stop the sale of them altogether.

* STANDARD DISCLAIMER: I don’t have a problem with America or Americans, in fact I love the premise it’s based on, I’ve liked most Americans I’ve met, and I’d really like to visit there. But seriously guys, on a collective level, do you want fries with that?

Venezuela’s Chavez tells Washington

Chavez is at it again. Has he genuinely cracked up?

Yahoo News: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday called the U.S. secretary of state “my little girl” and told Washington to “go to hell” after it questioned his plan to seek special powers to legislate by decree.

Chavez, a Cuba ally re-elected by a landslide in December, this month launched a campaign to consolidate power by nationalizing key industries, seeking expanded executive powers and pushing for unlimited presidential re-election.

Rule by decree passed for Chavez

I honestly thought Chavez might have been one of the good guys, but it looks increasingly less likely. Is our race really incapable of keeping a handle on our greed?

BBC News: Venezuela’s National Assembly has given initial approval to a bill granting the president the power to bypass congress and rule by decree for 18 months.

President Hugo Chavez says he wants “revolutionary laws” to enact sweeping political, economic and social changes.

He has said he wants to nationalise key sectors of the economy and scrap limits on the terms a president can serve.
